Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a violent incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time authorities were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
Before the Gunfire
Law enforcement were first called to Howe Park at approximately half past six in the evening after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made about a possible fight taking place inside the park.
A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, it was evident that several hundred individuals had packed into the park without official sanction.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering the crowd to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies immediately began identifying shooting victims.
The Shooting Victims
When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were located with gunshot injuries. The four individuals — including a female and three males each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted at the location and aided in treating shooting victims prior to hospital transport.
The Investigation
The main crime scene was Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 determined to have unfolded on the Cottage Way corridor close to the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators discovered more spent casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Ballistic damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing surrounding the nearby Home Depot. This evidence indicated that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was locked down for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene for hours.
Arrests Made
Intelligence received via scanner audio established that a Kia vehicle was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were detained. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for questioning. Video that was reviewed established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
